Dr. José Quiroga is a Chilean cardiologist whose life and career have been profoundly shaped by his commitment to human rights and the healing of torture survivors.

September 11th, 1973


As one of President Salvador Allende’s personal physicians, Dr. José Quiroga (in the picture in a white lab coat), witnessed the military coup that ended Allende’s life. Detained by the Chilean Army, he later sought refuge in the United States.
